Župski bali are traditional dances of Župa Dubrovačka, a region located just east of Dubrovnik. Due to this geographical proximity, the people of Župa have historically been in close contact with the city of Dubrovnik and its rich culture.
It was precisely this strong influence that shaped the lavish traditional costume of Župa. We are proud that the Folklore group "Marko Marojica" was founded primarily with the aim of preserving these beautiful dances, as well as the unique traditional clothing of our region.
About the Dance Repertoire
This dance suite consists of five dances: polka, duet, čičak, mazurka, and the Župska poskočica.
Among them, the Župska poskočica stands out in particular, being the local variant of the famous Dubrovnik poskočica (Linđo). Just like Linđo, this dynamic dance is performed to the traditional accompaniment of the lijerica (an ancient three-stringed bowed instrument).
