Lin\u0111o<\/strong> is the most popular dance of Dubrova\u010dko primorje. It is performed to the accompaniment of the lijerica<\/strong>, an ancient three-stringed bowed instrument still played today in Dalmatia, although in the past, this dance was also performed to the accompaniment of the traditional bagpipe (mijeh or mi\u0161nice).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How is Lin\u0111o Danced?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The dancers are arranged in pairs around the musician. The dance is led by kolovo\u0111a<\/strong>, who dictates the pairs and changes of dance figures in a sharp tone and rhythm. Through loud shouts, he issues \"commands\" in witty, and often double-meaning verses, encouraging the dancers as they compete in improvisations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Origin of the Name<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The dance received its current name relatively late. Some believe it was named after the last name or nickname of its once-famous leader, Nikole Lale Lin\u0111o<\/strong>, a native of Petra\u010da in \u017dupa Dubrova\u010dka. Others, however, consider it to be a general local term for the lijeri\u010dar (the instrument player) himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In our repertoire:<\/strong> Lin\u0111o has been performed in the society since 2012, when it was choreographed by Mr. Sulejman Muratovi\u0107 (Sule), the artistic director of the \"Lin\u0111o\" Folklore Ensemble at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
