Historical population migrations led to the displacement of Croats outside their homeland. However, the Bunjevci, who live in northern Vojvodina, have maintained their Croatian identity through the preservation of their language, rich traditional costumes, and a series of folk customs in which dance holds a special place.
The Bunjevac Bachelor's Dance (Momačko kolo)
Their most famous dance is the The Bunjevac Bachelor's Dance (Momačko kolo). In this dance, young men compete in dance improvisations with the aim of charming the girls. They wear rattles-bells (zvečke) on their boots, which they use to achieve special acoustic and rhythmic effects.
The Bunjevac Women's Traditional Costume
The lavish women's costume, which was once made of Lyon silk, reflects the influence of Western Europe and urban fashion on traditional clothing.
In our repertoire: This dance has been performed in the society since 2021, when the choreography was staged by our director, Mateo Čanić, to mark the occasion of the society's 45th anniversary.
